Tournament debutants Serbia swept aside Germany to clinch the ARAG ATP World Team Championship in Dusseldorf on Saturday.
Viktor Troicki set the Serbians on their way with a 6-4 7-6 (7-5) victory over Rainer Schuettler.
Janko Tipsarevic then took centre stage to clinch the silverware with a convincing 6-2 6-4 triumph against Phillip Kohlschreiber.
Nicolas Kiefer and Mischa Zverev restored some pride for the host nation by winning the doubles - seeing off Troicki and Nenad Zimonjic 7-5 4-6 10-7 - to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Tipsarevic claimed the triumph was huge for Serbia, given the absence of world number four Novak Djokovic.
"I think we showed that we are a big tennis nation also if Novak is not here with us," he said.
"I really played well because I was 100 per cent prepared for the match. I knew he (Kohlschreiber) was going to play well because most of his last matches were pretty easy and he played really, really well."
Troicki added: "I really feel happy and it's tough to explain. Pretty much, I cannot believe it. If someone told me before this week that we would win here this week, honestly, I wouldn't believe him.
"It was very tough. We made it and I'm really really happy that we won. I think personally that this is maybe my best moment in my career."
Serbia's win marks only the second time a team has won this competition at the first attempt following Yugoslavia's victory in 1990.
The Serbians went through the round-robin stage undefeated and secured their place in the final by finishing top of the Blue Group with a 2-1 win over Italy.
Germany edged a testing tie against Sweden 2-1 to claim their place in the championship match by virtue of finishing top of the Red Group.
