Spain's Nicolas Almagro upset top-seeded countryman Carlos Moya 7-6 (7/4) 3-6 7-5 to win the Brasil Open and capture his third career title on Sunday.
Ranked 31st, 22-year-old Almagro claimed his first title since his victory at Valencia last season.
Claycourt specialist, Moya, 31, was playing in his 43rd career final and first of the year.
A former world number one, Moya has won 16 of his 20 singles titles - including the 1998 French Open - on clay. Additionally, 325 (59 per cent) of his 550 career victories have come on the surface.
Moya, currently ranked 18th, was denied his first title since winning on clay at Umag in July.
