Philipp Kohlschreiber won his second career ATP title on Saturday when he posted a 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 victory over Juan Carlos Ferrero to capture the Heineken Open.
One day after easily upsetting third-seeded Argentinian Juan Monaco, Kohlschreiber avenged a straight-sets loss to Ferrero in their only previous meeting at the 2006 French Open, outlasting the 27-year-old Spaniard in a match that lasted nearly two hours.
The seventh seed, Kohlschreiber fired seven aces and saved 4-of-5 break points in the battle.
Ferrero, who was seeded fourth, narrowly edged the German in first-serve points, winning 73 percent (43-of-59) to Kohlschreiber's 72 percent (39-of-54).
Ranked 31st in the world, the 24-year-old Kohlschreiber won his first career title at Munich in 2007.
Ferrero had advanced to the final with a 6-3 6-4 triumph over unseeded Julien Benneteau of France on Friday.
He was seeking his 12th career championship and first since capturing four in 2003.
