Richard Gasquet completed a 6-3 6-4 victory over number eight seed Olivier Rochus on Sunday to win the Kingfisher Airlines Open in Mumbai.
In capturing his first hardcourt title, the top-seeded Frenchman did not lose a set and dropped only 20 games en route to his fifth career singles crown.
It was also Gasquet's first title since winning in Lyon last October.
"I'm very happy to have won a title on hard court. I had won on grass, clay and indoor (synthetic), so it shows I can play on every court, which is very important for me," said Gasquet.
"It's my first title of the year and my first title in India, so I will have great memories of this tournament for sure."
Rochus had won his only other meeting with Gasquet in 2003 at Marseille, but had difficulty dealing with the 21-year-old this time around.
Gasquet converted 28-of-33 first-serve points, including 13-of-14 in the opening set, and was broken just once in the match.
"Richard has a lot of experience and he never makes stupid errors," Rochus said. "He makes you play and he makes you run. He's not No. 14 in the world for nothing."
Ranked 66th in the world, Rochus was chasing his third career title. The 26-year-old Belgian began the year ranked among the top 40, but a 17-24 singles record has taken its toll on his standing.
Mumbai proved to be a good comeback tournament for Gasquet, who was competing in his first event since withdrawing from a second-round match at the US Open due to illness.
It was also his best showing since Wimbledon, where he reached the semi-finals before falling to eventual champion and world number one Roger Federer.
