Gilles Simon rallied for a 4-6 6-3 6-2 victory over Victor Hanescu on Sunday to secure his second title of the season at the BCR Open in Romania.
Simon, who won his first title earlier this year in Marseille, will likely see his world ranking climb to a career best on Monday. Currently ranked 42nd, the 22-year-old has never been better than 39, but this claycourt title is expected to push him past that.
The only seeded player to advance past the quarter-finals here, Simon dug himself a hole early.
Riding the momentum of playing in his home town, Hanescu converted 19-of-20 first serves and broke Simon once to take the first set.
Simon would not be broken again, however, as he converted 15 of 16 first-serve points to take the second set and broke Hanescu twice to nail down the decisive third.
This marked the first final appearance for the 26-year-old Hanescu, who became the first Romanian to reach the final since the event started in 1993.
Injuries have limited Hanescu to just seven events this season.
