Rafael Nadal continued his tremendous run on clay courts with a 6-4 7-5 victory over Stanislas Wawrinka in the final of the Mercedes Cup on Sunday.
Despite having an opponent win more than six games for the first time in this tournament, Nadal captured his 93rd win in his last 94 matches on dirt dating back to 2005.
He also posted his fifth title on the surface in six finals this season, losing only to world number one Roger Federer in the championship match at Hamburg in May.
The 22-year-old Wawrinka was playing in his first final of the year and third of his career.
The Swiss player benefited from a retirement by fifth seed Guillermo Canas in the first round before knocking off seventh-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina in Saturday's semi-finals.
