David Ferrer captured the Swedish Open on Sunday by seeing off countryman Nicolas Almagro in straight sets.
The second-seeded Spaniard captured his third career claycourt title with a decisive 6-1 6-2 victory.
Ferrer, who crushed fifth-seeded Italian Filippo Volandri 6-2 6-1 in the semi-final, claimed his second title of the year and fourth of his career. He won earlier this season in Auckland.
In the Swedish Open, Ferrer won four of his five matches by surrendering just three games or less.
"Today I played really well and could play my own game in the final," Ferrer said.
"In fact, I've played well all week here in Bastad."
Almagro complimented Ferrer for his play, but admitted that Sunday was not his best.
"Ferrer was playing really well but I didn't play well at all," Almagro said.
"There was no specific reason. It was just one of those days when nothing works.
"I have all the right shots that I need to reach top 15, but I have to stop playing bad matches like this in order to make it. It was disappointing and unexpected to lose the final after having played so well all week."
Almagro posted a 6-3 1-6 6-2 upset of fellow Spaniard and fourth seed Carlos Moya to advance to the final.
Six Spaniards have won this championship in the Open era, including Manuel Orantes (1972), Emilio Sanchez (1986), Moya (2002), Rafael Nadal (2005) and Tommy Robredo (2006).
