Second seed Tommy Haas had a surprisingly easy time Sunday in recording a 6-3 6-2 victory over Andy Roddick to win the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships for the third time in his career.
Haas defended his title from last year and also won here in 1999. The German joined Jimmy Connors - Roddick's coach - as the only player to win at least three times here.
"Something about this tournament makes me play well," Haas said. "Everything seemed to go my way. I served pretty well."
Haas fired 30 winners, closing out the match that lasted just 61 minutes with his eighth ace. He also never faced a break-point chance, while converting five out of eight break points against top seed Roddick.
The 28-year-old Haas, who improved to 26-6 in his career in Memphis, won his 11th overall ATP title.
Roddick was making his first appearance in a final since the 2006 US Open. The American was denied his first title since the ATP Masters Series Cincinnati in August 2006.
It marked the first time the top two seeds met in the final here since 1987, when Stefan Edberg defeated Connors.
