Australian Mark Philippoussis prevented Justin Gimelstob from winning his first career ATP title with a 6-3 7-5 triumph on Sunday in the final of the Hall of Fame Championships.

The hard-hitting Philippoussis, 29, registered his 11th career title and first since Shanghai in 2003, his previous finals appearance.

Despite the defeat, it was a magical week for Gimelstob, a 29-year-old journeyman from New Jersey who never had advanced to a ATP-level final in 153 career tournaments before upsetting top seed Andy Murray 6-1 7-6 (7-4) on Saturday in the semi-finals of this grasscourt event.
