Olivier Rochus kept countryman and good friend Kristof Vliegen without an ATP Tour title.
The fifth seed, Rochus defeated Vliegen, 6-4 6-2, on Sunday to win the claycourt BMW Open in the first all-Belgian final in tour history.
Rochus, 25, had been just 1-3 in career finals, having won at Palermo, Italy in 2000 before losing his next three, including at Auckland, New Zealand last year.
The 23-year-old Vliegen never has won an ATP Tour event and had only reached one previous final, at Adelaide, Australia in 2003.
Vliegen won their only prior meeting, a three-set triumph in Umag, Croatia in 2004.
