Rafael Nadal joined some pretty select company on Sunday after winning the Open Seat Godo.
The top seed Nadal posted a 6-4 6-4 6-0 triumph over fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo to successfully defend his title in Barcelona.
The reigning French Open champion, Nadal won his 47th consecutive clay court match, moving past Bjorn Borg for the second-longest winning streak on the dirt.
Only Guillermo Vilas' 53-match winning streak in 1977 is longer in the Open Era.
The 19-year-old Spanish left-hander improved to 15-2 in career finals, winning his 12th in a row and third this year.
Nadal, who is 22-3 in 2006, is 11-0 lifetime in clay court finals and moved within one of matching Borg's record of 16 overall titles as a teenager.
"I'm playing with confidence in the finals," Nadal said.
"I won the last 11 finals before this one.
Normally when I play in the finals, I play better than in the early rounds.
"Today is maybe my best match this week. That's very important."
The sixth seed, the 23-year-old Robredo slipped to 2-4 in career finals.
He last won a title here two years ago, beating Gaston Gaudio.
"It's tough.
I did well," Robredo said. "I did my job but couldn't get the result.
"In the first set I was close, but in the second set, I was closer.
"I had 4-3, 15-40.
I made one stupid mistake, just trying to wait for an easy shot for me.
Then one good point for him, and it changes the set.
"Maybe if I could win that game, I would be one set all, and the match can change a little bit."
