Radek Stepanek lifted his first career singles title on Sunday with victory in the ABN AMRO World event in Rotterdam.
The sixth seed defeated Belgium's Christophe Rochus 6-0 6-3 to continue a successful sporting weekend for the Czech Republic, who also won the bronze medal in the Winter Olympics men's ice hockey tournament on Saturday.
It was Stepanek's fourth career final and he was delighted to have finally finished one with the spoils.
"I've lost three finals before this one and I'm very happy that I won," he said.
"When I got up in the morning I knew that this was going to be my day. I played my best match in a long time, serving fantastically. I controlled the match until the end and I also made some great shots in the last game."
Stepanek had done well to reach the final, needing two-and-half hours to dispose of Serbo-Montenegrin qualifier Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals before beating Russian Nikolay Davydenko in the last four.
Rochus reached the final by defeating Jarkko Nieminen 6-4 6-3 on Saturday, avenging younger brother Olivier's loss a day earlier.
After the final, he admitted that he had been unable to keep up with Stepanek.
"In the beginning everything went too fast for me. Stepanek is a tough opponent. I wasn't very nervous, there are just days like this one, when everything goes wrong. I couldn't do anything," he said.
