Jonas Bjorkman took an immediate liking to
Vietnam.
Bjorkman earned his first singles title since 2002 with a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) win
over third seed Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic in the final of the
inaugural Vietnam Open on Sunday.
Playing in his first final this year, the 33-year-old Bjorkman of Sweden kept
alive an impressive run by getting through the event without losing a
set.
He improved to 3-0 all-time against Stepanek, who also had not dropped a set
until Sunday.
The win prevented Stepanek from wiping out a Swede for the second straight
day.
He knocked off second seed Thomas Johansson on Saturday, 7-5 6-4.
Bjorkman reached the finals with an impressive 6-1 6-0 defeat of top seed
Mariano Puerta of Argentina on Saturday.
Puerta was nursing a sore wrist and offered little resistance.
The first ATP Tournament to be held in Vietnam, the event was held at the Phu
Tho Indoor Sports Complex.
