Robby Ginepri claimed the RCA Championships on
Sunday after his opponent, Taylor Dent, was forced to retire midway through
their final in Indianapolis.
Ginepri held a 4-6 6-0 3-0 lead over Dent when the fourth seed quit amid
scorching conditions at the US Open warm-up hard court event.
It was the fifth time in as many matches that Ginepri upset a ranked player.
He previously knocked off eighth-seeded American Vincent Spadea, ninth-seeded
Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand, top seed and two-time defending champion Andy
Roddick of the United States and number 10 Karol Beck of Slovakia.
Dent had not dropped a set all week but looked fatigued after the first few
games and appeared much worse after taking the first set.
After he retired, he was escorted to the locker room without taking his bag.
It was the first all-American final here since Pete Sampras defeated Jim
Courier in 1992.
