Carlos Moya hammered David Nalbandian 6-3 6-3 6-1 to
triumph in the final of the Rome Masters Series tournament on Sunday.
The Spaniard, a clay-court specialist whose only grand slam title came at the
French Open in 1998, overwhelmed Argentinian Nalbandian and improved as the
match progressed.
He made 28 winners to Nalbandian's 12, and successfully converted six of eight
break points.
Moya has made a magnificent start to the year and this was his third title of
2004, after previous triumphs in Acapulco and Chennai.
He was also a losing finalist at Sydney and Buenos Aires.
Nalbandian had beaten Moya in two of their past three meetings, all which have
been played on clay, but he found himself with no answer to a dazzling
performance in this latest contest.
