MIRNYI WINS FIRST ATP TITLE

Max Mirnyi has won his first career ATP
singles title by beating local hero Raemon Sluiter 7-6 6-4 at the ABN AMRO World
Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.
Mirnyi's previous best result was a semi-final appearance at Stuttgart in
2001, although he has won the US Open doubles title twice and picked up 11 other
doubles victories in his career.
It was the Belarussian's first win over his Dutch opponent, who beat him 7-6
6-3 in their only other encounter at Queen's Club last year.
