Top seed Roger Federer of Switzerland recorded
a straight-sets victory over Swede Jonas Bjorkman on Sunday in the final of the
Marseille Open indoor event.
Ranked 15th in the world, Federer won for the first time in four events this
season with a 6-2 7-6 (8-6) triumph.
"It's a dream to win this tournament for me," he said.
"Everything really started for me here and Toulouse.
"It's the first place I
reached a final and Marc (Rosset) beat me.
"I had a wild card last year, but was injured and couldn't play.
"Now I've won
the title here."
Federer lost only one set this tournament and captured his sixth career title.
The winner of a career-best 58 matches last season, he has captured 10 of his
past 11.
"This was a good start to the season and I like this surface a lot - I've had
some great results on it," Federer said.
Bjorkman was seeking his sixth career title.
"Of course you always want to win, but I think I took something positive from
this today and from the tournament," Bjorkman said.
"I'm feeling really good about my game and I think it's a really good sign
for the kind of tennis I can play for the rest of the year."
