Denmark's Kenneth Carlsen claimed the Japan
Open title on Sunday by beating fellow Scandinavian Magnus Norman in straight sets.
Carlsen overcame the Swede 7-6 (8-6) 6-3 to land his first tournament victory
since Hong Kong in 1998.
It also completes a lengthy comeback following shoulder surgery in February
2000.
Norman was trying to become the first qualifier to win a tournament this year.
But he remained winless since 2000 in Shanghai.
The winner of a tour-best 10 titles in 1999 and 2000, Norman was appearing in
his just his second final since undergoing hip surgery in August 2001.
