Carlos Moya outbattled number one
seed Lleyton Hewitt to win the Cincinnati Masters 7-5 7-6 (7/5) in a rain-affected
match.
The 25-year-old Spaniard was behind in both sets but broke back to beat Hewitt
each time.
The Australian broke first in the opening set to take a 3-1 lead but Moya hit
back to level at 3-3 before a downpour at 4-4 forced the players off the court.
After a break of over two hours they returned and Moya claimed the set by
breaking the world number one at 6-5 with some superb forehands down the line.
Hewitt then upped his game in the second set and broke the Spaniard twice to
take a 5-2 lead and serve for the set.
But Moya clawed his way back as Hewitt lost control of his first serve and
pulled the score back to 5-5.
In a tense tie break, Hewitt double-faulted to give Moya a match point, which
the Spaniard converted with a superb serve.
Hewitt said: "I'd like to congratulate Carlos he was too good for me."
