Carlos Moya of Spain successfully defended his Croatian
Open title, cruising past compatriot and qualifier David Ferrer in the final in
Umag.
The 25-year-old Moya won 6-2 6-3, meaning he dropped only one set this week as
he captured the Croatian crown for the third time following his first success in
1996.
He lifted his second trophy in as many tournaments, having also triumphed at
Bastad last week.
Despite the loss, it was a memorable week for the 20-year-old Ferrer.
Competing in just his second ATP event, he upset top seed and Wimbledon finalist
David Nalbandian in the opening round for his first career match win.
Moya and Ferrer contested the third all-Spanish affair in the last seven
finals of the Croatia Open. In 1996, Moya beat Felix Mantilla, who prevailed a
year later over Sergi Bruguera.
