Spaniard Carlos Moya lifted his first trophy of the
season after edging out Fernando Meligeni in the Mexican Open final.
He has revelled all week on the clay, his specialist surface and today was just
too good for Brazilian Meligeni, winning 7-6 (7/4) 7-6 (7/4).
The title represents the eighth of a career which hit the heights of grand slam
triumph at the French Open in 1998.
The fifth seed collected a 126,000 US dollar (£88,000) cheque for his efforts
and extended his winning record over Meligeni to 4-1.
