Germany's Lars Burgsmuller claimed his first ATP
title at the Copenhagen Open with a relatively comfortable win over
Olivier Rochus.
The 26-year-old never looked in real danger as he claimed a 6-3 6-3 victory
with the minimum of fuss in the Danish capital.
Belgian Rochus, 20, one of the shortest players on the ATP tour at 5ft 5in,
could not find the answers to the German's big-hitting.
Burgsmuller, who collected approximately £34,000, found the match easier than
he expected.
A day before he was involved in a marathon match against Swede Magnus Larsson.
"Obviously I am very happy to win the title," he said.
"I really didn't expect to win today. I felt very sore after my match against
Larsson yesterday."
Burgsmuller's record in Copenhagen is remarkable.
He has won 10 of 12 matches now.
He fell in the quarter-finals here a year ago to eventual runner-up Andreas
Vinciguerra of Sweden and lost to another Swede in the 1997 semi-finals,
eventual champion Thomas Johansson.
"Today, I served well and my volleys were working very well also. I always seem
to play well in Copenhagen," he added.
"I also had to revenge myself against Olivier following my loss last week in the
Wroclaw Challenger. Today Olivier made more mistakes and I applied more
pressure from the baseline."
