Spain's Carlos Moya won his second Croatian Open
tennis title, holding on for a 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) victory over Jerome Golmard of
France.
Moya, the top seed in the clay-court event, dominated the decisive tie-breaker
to defeat Golmard for the first time in four meetings.
In capturing his seventh career ATP title, Moya won for the first time this
year after falling to Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain at Barcelona in April.
He also reached the semi-finals at Acapulco and Mallorca.
"I felt like I had control throughout the match," Moya said. "I stayed focused
right from the beginning today, and it's great to win here again."
Moya lifted the trophy here in 1996, defeating compatriot Felix Mantilla for
his second career tour triumph.
Although he failed to win his third career ATP title, Golmard registered his
best performance of the season.
"I was tired at the start of the match after the semi-final," Golmard admitted.
