Sergio Aguero's stunning brace denied Chelsea victory in a 2-2 Champions League Group D draw - but the Blues still reached the knockout stages.

Carlo Ancelotti's side went into their Champions League Group D encounter with a 100% record from their three previous games and knowing that a victory would guarantee their place in the last 16.

However, Aguero's stunning volley after 66 minutes appeared to put the champagne on ice for the Blues in the Vicente Calderon.

But with just eight minutes left on the clock, Drogba - playing in his first game since a three-match European ban lapsed - headed home Florent Malouda's left-wing cross, before he fired in with just two minutes left to put Chelsea ahead.

But just as the Blues were about to celebrate a smash-and-grab-win, Aguero enhanced his reputation with a magnificent 25-yard free-kick to ensure the match finished all square.

The hosts made a bright start with Diego Forlan firing a 25-yard strike just wide. Play quickly switched down the other end with Michael Essien's determination presenting Drogba with a sighting at goal.

But the Blues were grateful to the agility of Petr Cech for keeping the scores level after 20 minutes when he pushed Jose Reyes' precise left-footed curling effort around the post.

Salomon Kalou then flashed a header wide from 12 yards at the end of a slick move, while Cleber Santana lashed wide from 30 yards.

But a disjointed half could have ended with Chelsea ahead when Frank Lampard's lashed a rising drive just wide of goal from 25 yards.

And the Blues were again unfortunate as the second half got underway with Drogba's dipping 25-yard free-kick being pushed onto the post by Andres Asenjo.

But Chelsea found themselves trailing after 66 minutes when Aguero lashed home a stunning right-footed volley from 15 yards after John Terry had only half cleared Simao's left-wing cross.

With just eight minutes left on the clock, Drogba rose well in the six-yard box to head Malouda's cross in for the equaliser, and when the powerful Ivorian raced through on goal and blasted home at the second time of asking, it seemed as though the Blues had claimed victory.

But with virtually the last kick, Aguero curled home a fine 25-yard free-kick, which although denied Chelsea a win, was not enough to prevent them reaching the knockout stages with two matches to spare.

FC Porto's 1-0 win over Apoel Nicosia in the group's other game also ensured their progress, meaning only final placings are to be decided in Group D.
