Josh Lewsey has warned the England management to be prepared for the change in team dynamics which would come with Lawrence Dallaglio's expected return to the international fold.
The England back is fully in favour of his Wasps team-mate returning to the national team set-up after 16 months away.
However, he believes care must be taken when reintroducing a player with such a strong reputation as a leader of men, particularly as Leicester's Martin Corry is set to retain the captaincy in England's RBS 6 Nations squad.
Lewsey told the Daily Mirror: "It would be easy to come out with all the obvious answers, like Lawrence is a great guy and so on and so forth.
"But we also know bringing him back in is not purely a playing issue.
"He's such a big character, such a big personality, that him being in the squad does inevitably change the leadership dynamics.
"I'm certainly not saying that is a reason not to bring him back in. But it needs to be borne in mind."
Lewsey added: "Lawrence is a natural-born leader, but I would have to say that Martin has done a fantastic job there.
"Personally I'd be very, very surprised if Martin would be diminished in any way by Lawrence coming back. Both of them are very mature guys."
Dallaglio will learn on Wednesday whether his England comeback has been successful when head coach Andy Robinson unveils his squad.
Dallaglio has been in self-imposed international exile for the past 16 months but has made himself available for selection after admitting his decision to retire was too hasty.
With Leicester flanker Lewis Moody and Worcester openside Pat Sanderson set to miss the opening match of the championship against Wales on February 4, there is room for Dallaglio's return.
He has been in fine form for his club Wasps after recovering from the broken ankle he sustained during the opening match of the British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand.
Robinson is sure to include the 33-year-old number eight in the 30-man squad, with Corry retaining the captaincy.
Dallaglio would add to an already solid pack which shone during the November internationals, confirming that up front England can compete with anyone.
Behind the scrum is a different matter, however, with the midfield in the most urgent need of attention.
Josh Lewsey has been widely tipped to start at outside centre but there are several candidates for the number 12 jersey in Mike Tindall, Jamie Noon, Stuart Abbott and Olly Barkley.
Promising Northampton back Jon Clarke has catapulted himself into the reckoning with some outstanding displays for Saints but this season's Six Nations may have come too soon for the uncapped 22-year-old.
Shaun Perry could also win his first senior England call-up, with the Bristol back competing with Matt Dawson, Harry Ellis and Peter Richards for the three scrum-half spots.
