Australia captain Darren Lockyer is tipped to bring down the curtain on his international career on a high by leading the Kangaroos to victory in the Gillette Four Nations final.

The 32-year-old Brisbane Broncos stand-off says he is "95% certain" to retire from the international game after winning his 50th cap against England at Elland Road on Saturday.

"It's an amazing achievement," said veteran Australian prop and former Broncos team-mate Petero Civoniceva.

"There's not much more in the game that the guy can do.

"I've just been so lucky to have played not only club football but State of Origin and international football alongside him.

"I suppose when we're all old and retired and reflect on the good players we've been fortunate enough to play alongside, he'll definitely top the list.

"His past performances and what he's been able to do single-handedly shows what a champion he is. He won't speak about it too much but I know deep down he's so proud of what he's been able to do."

Lockyer, who is on his seventh tour of the United Kingdom, has already achieved two milestones in the tournament, becoming Australia's most capped player in the opening match and succeeding Clive Churchill as his country's most experienced captain in Paris last Saturday.

He now has the chance to become Australia's most prolific tryscorer, having equalled Ken Irvine's record of 33 in his side's 26-16 win over England in Wigan a fortnight ago.

"I'd love to see him break that record," added Civoniceva, who who will break John Raper's record as the most capped Kangaroos forward with his 40th cap tomorrow.

"It would be another feather in the cap for him and, if anyone deserves it in our game, it's definitely Darren.

"He's put so much into his football. I've been very lucky to have grown up with him and been part of those great teams alongside him."

The modest Lockyer has steadfastly refused to allow his personal achievements to overshadow his team's objectives but he concedes Saturday's final will almost certainly be his last on English soil, at least in a Kangaroo jersey.

He is set to sign a new two-year contract with Brisbane on his return home and call time on his representative career, while keeping open the possibility of a swansong in Super League in 2012.

"I was always going to weigh up everything early next year and decide whether I make myself available for rep football," he said.

"I won't make that decision until just prior to the season but it's pretty much 95% that it's the last time I'll be in England playing for Australia."

Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens has only had the chance to work with his captain since taking over the reins from Ricky Stuart in the wake of last year's World Cup final defeat but admits he will be a hard man to replace.

"He's a consummate professional and good leader and he'll be very hard to replace when he does decide to give it away," he said.

Sheens is expecting Lockyer to rise to the occasion tomorrow, particularly after producing a disappointing display in the Kangaroos' 42-4 win over France last Saturday.

"I thought Darren was one of our best against England two weeks ago," he said. "He's a key link to our game. Obviously we've got some pretty smart boys out wide and he's the man that's got to deliver the pass or the kick.

"He's one of the true five-eighths left in the game in Australia and I expect him to be up for the game."
