Richie Myler feared his man-of-the-match performance on his England debut would be forgotten when coach Tony Smith came to select his squad for the Gillette Four Nations series.
After all, it is almost four months since his record 30-point haul helped demolish the French in Paris and Myler has played just five matches for his club in that time.
Left out of the Salford side by coach Shaun McRae as he finalised a move to Warrington, Myler's last match was for the Reds against Wakefield on July 31.
However, the 19-year-old scrum half need not have worried for he was duly named in Smith's 24-man squad for the internationals against France, Australia and New Zealand.
"There was a spell over the last eight weeks when I was a bit nervous," he said.
"I wasn't panicking but I was wondering whether I had done enough and would get picked and, when Tony rang me, I was over the moon."
Myler is now set to renew his half-back partnership with Leeds stand-off Danny McGuire, having got the nod over World Cup scrum-half Rob Burrow, although he is facing competition from fellow young guns Kyle Eastmond and Sam Tomkins, his fellow nominees for the Super League young player award.
"They are real quality players," acknowledged Myler, who lost out to Tomkins in the final vote for the award at the Man of Steel dinner.
Two months between matches has merely added to the hunger for Myler, who cannot wait to get to grips with the Australians.
"It seemed like it was taking an eternity to come and then, all of a sudden, it's on the doorstep," he said.
"I can't wait to get into it. I know it's going to be a really tough challenge but that's what you play rugby for.
"It would mean the world to play against Australia. It's every boy's dream when you are watching the telly, thinking 'I want to do that one day'."
Before he can dream of tackling the Kangaroos, Myler will face Wales in tomorrow's international in Bridgend, a match arranged to provide match practice for players whose season with their clubs ended long before the Grand Final.
"I'm chomping at the bit to play," he said. "I can't wait. I feel fresh, rejuvenated and ready to go."
Myler played in the corresponding match at Doncaster last year and scored two tries in a 74-0 rout but he is expecting things to be a lot different tomorrow.
"We know it's going to be a really tough challenge," he said. "Wales have got a new coach and there will be different players. We're expecting a really tough match."
Wales will be captained by Ben Flower, one of 11 players from Celtic Crusaders in Iestyn Harris' 19-man squad.
