Lord Shanakill finally gained a deserved success as he powered away with the Group Two Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury.
Karl Burke's charge finished in the frame three times in Pattern-race company earlier in the season, most notably when third in the Prix Morny.
He had disappointed slightly in last week's Flying Childers at Doncaster but he consigned that defeat to the memory with a strong finish here.
Marine Boy attempted to make all but had to give best when Sayif moved up to challenge before Jim Crowley unleashed Lord Shanakill.
Although 11-8 favourite Gallagher went with him, he never looked like heading 10-1 shot Lord Shanakill who prevailed by half a length.
Just a head separated Gallagher and Sayif for second and third.
Winning owner Mark Gittins said: "He's always been knocking on the door and we were in two minds whether to actually run today in case the race last week had taken too much out of him.
"He's had a few excuses but it's gone to a tee today.
"I'm not sure what we will do, America is an option but I don't think we will see him until next year."
Burke added: "He's not in the Middle Park but he could be supplemented and that is the only race he would go for this season, otherwise we would put him away.
"He will have entries for the 2000 Guineas - I think we will have to think that way.
"He stays seven furlongs now and he will get stronger."
