Bayern Munich should accept Manchester United's latest rumoured approach for Owen Hargreaves, according to Germany's former World Cup winner Gunter Netzer.
Writing in his weekly Bild newspaper column, Netzer advised the Bayern management to alter their stance on the Hargreaves saga and listen to the mooted offer, believed to be worth 30 million euros (£20.1million).
He said: "If the sum really is 30 million, then I can only say that you have got to sell Hargreaves straight away."
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and general manager Uli Hoeness have blocked the Premiership club's previous bids for the 25-year-old, whose stock rose considerably in the wake of excellent performances for England at last summer's World Cup.
Both Rummenigge and Hoeness want Hargreaves to honour the contract he signed just before the tournament in Germany, which ties the defensive midfielder to the Bundesliga champions until 2010.
However, Netzer believes the time is right for them to take a different approach.
He said: "Hoeness and Rummenigge would not be breaking their word as far as I am concerned.
"Quite the opposite - Hoeness has actually pushed the price up with his negotiating tactics.
"This amount is beyond anything ever paid for such a player."
