David Haye could face Bernard Hopkins next year, according to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer.
Haye took the WBA heavyweight title with a majority-decision points victory over Nikolai Valuev at the start of November and he is already obliged to make the first defence of his belt against American John Ruiz.
However, Hopkins, who is currently preparing to face Mexican Enrique Ornelas in a light-heavyweight contest on December 12, could be a future opponent for the Brit.
The 44-year-old also has a bout with Roy Jones Jr set for March 13 but the Executioner is interested in stepping up to the heavyweight division if he defeats his fellow veteran American, according to Schaefer.
"Hopkins wants to move up to fight David Haye if he wins," Schaefer told the Daily Star.
Haye is proving to be in demand with German promoter Saunderland Events, who will work with Golden Boy on the Englishman's next three bouts, claiming there will be a rematch between the 29-year-old and Valuev.
Saunderland Events general manager Chris Meyer said: "As the split decision indicates, it was a very close fight.
"The contracts do guarantee Niko a rematch and we are sure the outcome will be different when the two meet again."
