Two wins all season is the reason why John Parrott needs a miracle to cling on to his place in the top 32 of the world rankings.
Parrott spends the majority of his time working for the BBC at the major snooker events these days and sadly the time spent away from the practice table shows in his performances.
To his credit though, despite how comparatively little he plays these days, the likeable Liverpudlian still managed to do enough to qualify for the 22nd time at the Crucible. In a very tense affair, he managed to scrape through 10-9 against Lee Spick.
Despite not having won at match in Sheffield since 2000, Parrott was very frustrated that his run of consecutive appearances at the famous venue had been ended so he was determined to return this year.
The 41-year-old’s famous triumph in 1991 may indeed be a distant memory but at least he is once again involved this year after spending last year’s event on the sofa. The BBC needn’t worry too much, he should be back on duty after the opening round.
