The largely-deaf Swail has been a Crucible star in the past, twice reaching the semi-finals.

His run in 2000 helped him regain his top-16 status, but that was lost at the end of last season and the Northern Irishman has struggled somewhat of late.

'The Outlaw' was back in the last four in 2001 after knocking out defending champion Mark Williams en route.

Such form has proved hard to replicate for Swail who has only managed a handful of wins on the main tour this season.

With a tough opener against Ken Doherty looming, it's hard to see him doing much in Sheffield.
