Surprisingly reached the last eight at the Crucible back in 1997, a season that saw him voted as the WPBSA's young player of the year.

Has failed to hit such heights since though and that remains his best-ever ranking-event display.

One good omen for Walker could be that in 1997 he came through qualifying before reaching the quarter-finals.

This year he has already won five qualifying matches and now faces Stephen Lee, a player who does not have the greatest form in 2003/04.

However, Walker has hardly played in the final stages of the main tour events this season, so there is little to suggest he will be able to compete.

Reached the third round of the LG Cup at the start of the campaign - easily his best showing on the tour this term. Will need to rediscover such form to trouble Lee.
