The popular Liverpudlian is back at the Crucible as a player, although for how long remains to be seen.
Better known these days for his TV punditry, Parrott looks unlikely to produce one final hurrah at the Crucible where he famously took the world title back in 1991 by beating Jimmy White.
As well as lifting the trophy here, Parrott, whose passion for Everton Football Club and horse racing is well known, has also suffered agony in Sheffield.
It was here in 1989 that he was beaten 18-3 by Steve Davis - the heaviest-ever final defeat at the Crucible.
The 2003-2004 season has not been a particularly successful one for Parrott.
One rare bright spot came at the season-opening LG Cup.
Parrott beat Matthew Stevens and Stephen Lee on his way to the last four.
Since then it has been a barren run for the 39-year-old although he did successfully qualify here.
Parrott now faces a tough opener against title hopeful Paul Hunter.
