World Championship best: Semi-finalist – 1993, 1997
The Thai-phoon from Bangkok will be looking to recreate his glory days of the past when he rolls up at the Crucible this year.
He has come through qualifying and will now bid to reach the semi-finals for a third time in his remarkable career.
Wattana became one of Thailand's most popular figures in the 1980s when he burst on to the scene as a teenager.
Aged just 16 he won the Thailand Masters with victories over the likes of Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor. He went on to reach number three in the world, winning three ranking titles along the way.
His achievements at the table were rewarded away from it when he was made a Commander third class of the Most Noble Order of the Crown in Thailand - only the second sportsman ever to receive the honour.
Now in his 30s, Wattana is struggling with his game, although he did manage to come through the Embassy qualifying event to reach Sheffield.
His best result of the season so far came when he shocked John Higgins at the UK Championship.
Will need to pull off another shock to progress here as he faces Crucible star Matthew Stevens in round one.
