Having missed last season's tournament Gray returns to the Crucible, the scene of one of his greatest victories.

This is where the Scot stunned Ronnie O'Sullivan in 2000, winning their first-round encounter 10-9.

Gray failed to qualify in 2003, but secured anautomatic berth to this year's event after ending last season inside the world's top 16.

That was largely down to his first ranking-tournament victory at the Scottish Open last April.

But Gray has not even gone to close to such a triumph this season. In fact he has yet to go beyond the last 16 at any tournament.

With Ali Carter providing a stiff first-round test and other big names lurking around Gray in the draw, don't expect a lot of the 25-year-old.
