However, given that it is now more than a decade since his last semi-final appearance, you get the feeling the Scot's best days are behind him.

This season's form also gives little hope for a decent run here. McManus has reached just the one quarter-final, at the Welsh Open.

'Angles', as McManus is nicknamed, likes to grind down his opponents and his clash with fellow Scott Chris Small in round one could last a while.
