Ebdon - winner in 2002.

(7) PETER EBDON

World Ranking: 7
Provisional Ranking: 7
Date Of Birth: 27/08/70
World Championship best: Winner – 2002

Ebdon's career aim was achieved here two years ago when he won the world title by beating Stephen Hendry in a thrilling final on the deciding frame.

But the Wellingborough star suffered something of a hangover last season, failing to win a tournament and losing his Crucible crown with defeat in the last eight by Paul Hunter.

Ebdon has worn his heart of his sleeve in the past, displaying his emotions in the arena - something that has angered some opponents.

But Ebdon, who sits on the newly-formed WPBSA Board, has curtailed such actions somewhat since his world triumph with a calmer approach to the game.

He comes to the Crucible with confidence renewed having lifted the Irish Masters trophy in Dublin where Ronnie O'Sullivan was among his victims.

He favours the longer format the Crucible provides, and with a decent draw has to have an outside chance.
