The temperamental Australian is capable of the sublime and the ridiculous - such as conceding a frame with six reds left on the table as he did in Dublin in March.

He's also no stranger to an outburst, usually criticising his own play.

He has good form coming into Sheffield, reaching the last four in Dublin (beating John Higgins and Stephen Lee in the process) and the last eight in Malta.

Progress here may well come down to how he keeps his emotions in check.
