Mark Williams is on course to become only the third player to complete
snooker's triple crown after overwhelming Stephen Lee 17-8 to reach the final.
Only Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry have previously lifted the three blue
riband events - the UK Championship, The Masters and the world title in the same
season.
Twenty-eight-year-old Williams overcame Ken Doherty 10-9 in the UK at York in
December and followed that up with a 10-4 triumph over Stephen Hendry in the
Masters at Wembley.
Williams has already regained the number one spot in the world rankings after
losing it to Ronnie O'Sullivan 12 months ago.
The Welshman went into the evening session needing just one frame to book his
place in the best of 35 frame final after overwhelming an out of sorts Lee.
The course of the match had effectively been decided in the first session when
Williams raced into a 7-1 lead and Lee never threatened to get back in touching
distance.
Williams will play Ken Doherty in the final after the Irishman produced an amazing comeback to beat Paul Hunter 17-16.
