FIVE-STAR FISHER TAKES TITLE
Kelly Fisher won her fifth Embassy World Championship title in six years with
a 4-1 victory over Lisa Quick at the Crucible in Sheffield on Sunday.
Fisher, 24, produced a highest break of 90 to pocket the £5,500 top prize and
win her seventh trophy from the eight tournaments staged this season.
"It was so important for me to win it and I was really pleased to get over
the line," said Fisher.
"I was a bit nervous when I went out into the arena but once I got into the
match I felt in control."
Quick, a former world 8-ball pool champion, won the snooker title in 2001
after Fisher had been knocked out in the early rounds.
She scored only 46 points in the first three frames and although she edged the
fourth on the black despite being called for eight successive misses, Fisher
secured victory in three scoring visits a frame later.
Fisher added: "Whenever I got a good chance in the balls I felt that I was going to score well, and I could have had one or two more decent breaks.
"I could have finished the match off in the fourth frame if I hadn't missed the yellow. I made sure I won the next because I didn't want Lisa to come back at me."
Fisher has dominated the ladies' game for the past two seasons, winning 16 of the last 17 ranking events. A run of 69 matches unbeaten was ended in the Scottish Open in March when she lost to Maria Catalano. She also competes on the Challenge Tour - the men's secondary circuit.
"This has been an up and down season for me," said Fisher. "I moved to Carlisle and it took a while to get a good practice table. I've won a lot of ladies' titles but my form on the Challenge Tour hasn't been the best.
"I've got the right facilities now and I'm looking to make a real step forward next season."
