Ronnie O'Sullivan's Embassy World Championship almost took another turn for
the worst on Friday morning as John Higgins threatened to claim a share of the
Rocket's maximum break prize.
Any player to compile a 147 in the remaining days is entitled to a share of
O'Sullivan's £147,000 prize plus the £22,000 high break bonus.
And Higgins was poised to cash in as he started his second round match against
Grimsby qualifier Sean Storey in Sheffield this morning.
The 1998 world champion cued his way to 122 in the second frame of the morning
before missing a difficult green into the yellow pocket.
History is against O'Sullivan losing his monopoly on the money as there has
never been two maximums in the same year at the Crucible Theatre.
World number four Higgins also added runs of 48 and 73 to build a 3-0
advantage over the world number 82.
However, Storey, making his first appearance in the last 16 of the world
championship, opened his account by clearing up the last red to pink to trail
just 3-1 at the mid-session interval.
Storey, the lowest ranked player left in the competition, will hope to
continue his recovery in the second half of the session.
The duo play four more frames and then return this evening to complete a
second eight-frame session.
