STOREY LIVES UP TO NAME
Sean Storey has lived up to his surname this season by becoming one of the
success stories of the campaign.
And nothing would top it off better for the Grimsby professional than a first
ever Crucible victory.
The world number 83 has every chance to go one better than two years ago when
he lost 10-9 to Joe Swail on his Sheffield debut.
Storey, the lowest ranked player in the final stages and a 300-1 long shot for
the £270,000 first prize, resumes on Sunday night with a 6-3 advantage over Joe
Perry.
The 31-year-old from Humberside was not as fluent as Hendry but he got the job
done against a less than sparkling Perry.
Storey led 2-0 helped with a break of 62, but had to share the opening four
frames as Perry came from 58-0 down to pinch the third frame with a 34
clearance.
Storey, who defeated former Grand Prix champion Dominic Dale to qualify in
Torquay last month, then claimed the next three frames to lead 5-2.
Perry has won only three games all season, struggling to justify his top 16
status.
He reduced his arrears with a run of 65, but Storey's 63 restored a four-frame
cushion.
Four more frames will give the underdog his 27th victory of his best ever
professional season.
