Steve Davis is attributed as being the man that brought snooker into the modern era, and who can argue with that?
He was the dominant force in the game throughout the eighties, winning the world title six times before Stephen Hendry took that crown from him.
The 1999/2000 season started well for Davis with a quarter-final appearance in the British Open. Since then though he has failed to progress to the last eight of any major tournament.
He slammed his shock 5-4 defeat by Welshman Ryan Day at the Regal Welsh after leading 4-0 as being another rubbish result in a season of rubbish results.
A similar performance followed against Ali Carter at the B&H Masters when Davis threw a 4-1 lead away to lose 6-5 to the debutant.
Together with Stephen Hendry and John Higgins he is also the only player to hold the World, UK and Masters titles in the same year.
This season has also seen Davis honoured with an OBE to add to his MBE.
