Ricky Walden: Is making steady progress
Ricky Walden: Is making steady progress

Name: Ricky Walden

Date of birth: 11/11/82 (31)

World ranking: 10

Crucible best: Semi-finalist 2013

Chester cueman Ricky Walden has made steady progress since forcing his way into the top 16 two seasons ago.

Last season he claimed his second ranking event title by winning the Wuxi Classic and also reached the semi-finals of the World Championships before he was beaten by Barry Hawkins.

His best effort so far in this current campaign is a semi-final appearance at the UK Championship where he was beaten by Mark Selby.

Walden, a former world U21 champion, was on the wrong end of a snooker record at The Masters when he was beaten 6-0 by Ronnie O'Sullivan in just under 58 minutes.

Walden scored 39 points in the first frame, but that was it as O'Sullivan compiled 556 points without reply which was a new best.

However, he has the reputation as one of the most difficult players to beat and he certainly has the game to make his mark at the Crucible as he did 12 months ago.
