The world number 11 is once again suffering from the effects of Crohn's disease and has been advised by his doctor not to travel to the world ranking event in China.

The 33-year-old - diagnosed with Crohn's in 2003 - was due to play his opening match next Wednesday against Nigel Bond or wildcard Zhu Yinghui, with the winner of that match now getting a bye to the last 16.

Carter had been in good form, having won the Betfair German Masters at the start of the month after coming from 5-3 down to beat Marco Fu 9-6 in the final.
