Billy Snaddon reached his first major final in the 1999 Regal China International, staged at the JC Mandarin Hotel in Shanghai.

He recorded victories over James Wattana (5-3), Ronnie O’Sullivan (5-3), Stephen Lee (5-3) and former practice partner Stephen Hendry (6-2) before losing 9-3 to John Higgins.

Those performances helped Snaddon, a non-playing reserve in Scotland’s World Cup-winning team of 1996, to make a significant climb from 32nd to 24th in the Embassy World Rankings.

Snaddon seems to reserve his best for the Far East. He won the 1994 Kings Cup in Thailand and returned to Bangkok in March, 2000, to reach the quarter-finals of the Thailand Masters, losing 5-3 to Ken Doherty.

He has made four appearances in the televised stage of the Embassy World Championship but has yet to get past the first round, losing 10-7 to Jimmy White in 2000.
