Ali Carter defeated Jamie Burnett 10-7 in the final of the Roewe Shanghai Masters.
The first session had been a tight affair with neither player able to take control and the match finely poised at 5-4.
However, the Essex man found some rhythm as the contest wore on and managed to produce the second major win of his career.
Carter, winner of the Welsh Open last year, beat Mark Selby 6-2 to reach the final while Scot Burnett was a comfortable victor against Jamie Cope.
The lead swapped several times in a hard-fought morning session as neither player showed any real signs of superiority.
Carter took the first frame 76-25 but Burnett hit back to take the next two.
Carter won the next two frames but Burnett levelled things up again at 3-3 thanks to a 57 break and a 71-0 scoreline.
Burnett edged ahead again but Carter came back with a break of 71 to take the eighth frame.
Carter then won the ninth frame to lead 5-4 and also claimed the 10th to open up a lead and while Burnett clawed back the 11th, a 72 earned him the 12th.
Again Burnett fought back, eventually getting to 8-7 behind, but a 64 in the 16th put Carter within a frame of victory and from there he closed it out to pick up £60,000 in prize money.
"I am delighted to have one another title," Carter told 110sport.tv after sealing a hard fought triumph.
"It was a really tough match and the conditions were difficult. There was a lot of dampness in the air and that had an effect on the way the table played.
"Jamie has done fantastically well this week to get to the final and he showed that he is a real fighter today."
As well as having to battle it out against his dogged opponent, Carter revealed he also faced other battles having woken up on the day of the final with a dead arm.
The world number four said: "Last night I slept in a strange position and must have been lying on my arm. When I woke up it was completely dead - I had no feel in it so that wasn't an ideal way to start.
"It has been a few years since I won the Welsh Open so I am delighted to have managed to have added to my collection."
