Stephen Maguire is the new Travis Perkins UK champion after a stunning performance against David Gray in York.

The 23-year-old Scot defeated world number 14 Gray 10-1 to collect the £70,000 first prize.

Gray's consolation was a cheque for £35,000 plus another £31,000 for his maximum 147 break against Mark Selby in his opening match.

But the night belonged to Maguire who now has another piece of silverware to go with last season's European Open title.

It was the biggest winning UK final margin since Ronnie O'Sullivan's 10-1 win over Ken Doherty three years ago.

The match lasted just under three hours and Maguire required only 20 minutes to turn his 8-1 first session lead into an outstanding victory with breaks of 80 and 122.

It was a contest for only the first few frames of the opening session.

Gray had good opportunities in frames three, four and five but missed the lot and Maguire took command.

The world number 24 from Glasgow, who made a record five successive centuries at the recent British Open, compiled runs of 110 and 131 to lead 8-1.

The break did not interupt the flow even though there was an unscheduled delay to the start of the second session while a cube of chalk was sent out to Gray.

Ironically, Maguire was docked a frame against Shaun Murphy at the totesport Grand Prix for going back to the dressing rooms and retrieiving his chalk before the match could begin.

Maguire moved 9-1 clear with a run of 80 and then rolled in 122 to complete the formalities.

Maguire is already joint third favourite for the World Championship behind Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams.
