The sweeping Telstra Stadium - formerly known as Stadium Australia - was built for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and is the country's pre-eminent rugby venue.

Before its capacity was reduced to the current 80,000, the stadium in Homebush Bay hosted a world record 109,874 fans for Australia's Bledisloe Cup defeat to New Zealand in 2000.

It is widely regarded as one of the best Test matches of all time - the All Blacks edged it 39-35 with a last-minute try from Jonah Lomu - but the following year the Wallabies returned to Stadium Australia to complete their famous 2-1 series victory over the British Lions.

It will host the opening ceremony and all the tournament's showpiece matches including both semi-finals and the Rugby World Cup final on November 22.
